Former defence caput Ajay Kumar has been appointed president of the UPSC, according to a Union Personnel Ministry order.

The station of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) president fell vacant aft the completion of Preeti Sudan's tenure connected April 29.

Mr. Kumar's assignment was cleared by President Droupadi Murmu, according to the bid issued connected Tuesday (May 13, 2025).

A 1985-batch retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) serviceman of the Kerala cadre, Mr. Kumar worked arsenic Defence Secretary from August 23, 2019 to October 31, 2022, according to his work records.

The UPSC conducts civilian services examinations to prime officers for the IAS, Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and the Indian Police Service (IPS), among others. It is headed by a president and tin person a maximum of 10 members.
